It’s a red wine from the D.O. La Rioja produced by Bodegas Bilbaínas. This wine is a varietal Tempranillo.La grapes used come from the best vineyards in the region, located less than 2km from the winery. The soils from which La Vicalanda Reserva is born are calcareous and stony. These are by poor, low production but a lot of quality. The vineyards, planted in glass, are treated through sustainable agriculture. The harvest is only carried out at the optimum moment of maturation. After destemming and crushing, La Vicalanda Reserva goes through a maceration of about three weeks at 28oC. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations are then produced and the must then passes through a racking to purify the lees and enter barrels. The Vicalanda Reserva finally rests for 14 months in new French allier oak barrels. Three rackings are carried out during the ageing. The Vicalanda Reserva, before going on the market, ages for another 24 months in the bottle. Bodegas Bilbaínas, which is the oldest bottling firm in La Rioja, is a business group formed by the following three wineries: Viña Zaco, Viña Pomal and La Vicalanda.
